Killzone 2 has been regarded to be the next gen game that could kill Halo's reign as #1 FPS. The game footage shown at last years E3 blew people away with its amazing graphics and astonishingly realistic AI. After E3, gamers around the world argued back and forth whether the footage was real in-game footage.
Graphics Influencing Gameplay:
"As much as gameplay imitates art. Graphics are important, but gameplay is king. If your game looks great, but plays like a wet dog then you have failed. A good game does not NEED great graphics, but it helps."
Presentation and most important element to support mood and speed of the game:
"Good lighting and lots of f-words. Oh and lots of explosions."
Differences between developing for the PS2 and PS3:
"PS3 has a lot more flashing green lights. It is quite unnerving. That and it is powerful enough to kill a man from 200 yards using thought alone."
Killzone 2 Pre Rendered:
"Of course not. That is silly talk."
How to add depth to FPS shooters for current and next gen gaming:
"The storylines are usually too contrived and poorly thought out or too long and complicated. We need to find a suitable balance which involves the player a lot more with the characters and the situations."
Online:
"If a game is not online it is a huge downside to 'any' game these days. There is a strange mentality these days were a game without online capability is immediately frowned upon. Developers seem to include Online as an afterthought and because of marketing pressure or because they feel they 'have to'. Even on the PC."
As you can see, Killzone is set to be an excellent game. It impressed jaw-dropped fans at E3 with its real-time footage, and will hopefully do so even more upon release. Only time will tell as to whether is topples Halo, though.
